We have made playdough a few times now and added colour and spices. It is really quick to make and works really well. When I saw lots of people making chocolate playdough on Pinterest I just had to have a go.
It smells so delicious that when my husband came in he took a piece to taste. Sophie discovered a long time ago that this was not a good idea because it just tastes of salt. He spat it out in disgust – I think he thought we were baking!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups plain flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp cream of tartar
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 cups of boiling water
- Mix the dry ingredients together.
- Stir in the vegetable oil and the boiling water.
- When it has cooled, knead the dough. I found that it was quite sticky so I added some more flour. If it is dry add a little more water.
I set the playdough up in the tuff spot with a the chocolate box from our pom pom activity and a few pipe cleaners, buttons, pom poms and sprinkles to decorate with. Sophie has probably never seen a box of chocolates so I think the theme was more for my benefit but she enjoyed playing with the playdough anyway.
She is beginning to get the hang of rollings and positioning the cutters. I helped her to cut out shapes and rolled some balls for her to put into the chocolate box. She enjoyed pouring the cake sprinkles over the shapes and pressed some of the hearts into the playdough.
I stored this playdough in an air tight container so that we could use it again another day.
